Regional Printing Institute Launched Intro to Print Eight students are enrolled in the revitalized program |
Martinsburg, WV – The Regional Printing Institute (RPI) is pleased to announce eight students from regional high schools are enrolled and soon to complete ‘Intro to Print’; a new program developed for local high school seniors. These students are interested in learning about graphic communications and visiting major printing companies in the region. The program will ultimately produce graduates with an understanding of the basic principles required in the printing industry. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive 2 college credits from the Community and Technical College of Shepherd. “I signed up for t[JRJ\1] his class because I want to get a masters degree in graphic design and become a graphic designer,” stated Amanda Fox, a junior at Berkeley Springs High School. When asked about why he is taking this class, Tyler Mowen, a senior at Greencastle-Antrim High School explained “I recently got an internship at a screen printing business (Del Martin) and I wanted to further my understand of all types of printing.” “These students all appear very interested in the different printing processes that are located throughout our region,” explained Anne Deardorff, programs administrator and instructor for the Regional Printing Institute. “Of course, our goal is to educated students that will then find employment opportunities with our local printers, but if we are simply able to educate and increase the awareness of printers, we are pleased with the outcome,” stated Mrs. Deardorff. This program is being spearheaded by the RPI, which was created in 1998 to support the printing industry in the Quad-State Region. With over 200 printers in the region and over 8,000 employees, the industry has a strong stake hold in the education of local students. Other recent initiatives of the RPI include an Industry Awards Banquet, Golf Challenge and the Print Academy, a training program for national customer service certification. The Regional Printing Institute would like to thank the following companies for sponsoring a student enrolled in the ‘Intro to Print’ course: Berryville Graphics, Coral Graphics, Graphics Universal, Hub Labels and Quebecor World-Martinsburg & Winchester, DALB, Inc. and Quad Graphics. |
