Regional Printers Plan for 59th Annual International Printing Week
The Regional Printing Institute Coordinates Activities

Martinsburg, WV – The Regional Printing Institute (RPI) is pleased to announce the planning for a week of celebration during the 59th Annual International Printing Week, January 13 to 17, 2003.

International Printing Week is a nationally celebrated activity to recognize the impact of this industry. Here in the Quad-State region, which includes the counties surrounding the I-81 corridor in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, several activities are being planned, including several open houses/ plant tours and activities in local schools.

“This region has over 8,000 individuals employed at over 200 printing and allied industries. These companies include many internationally known printers with major facilities here in this region in addition to many smaller commercial printers with their operations in the area,” commented Scott Landis, chairman of the Regional Printing Industry Advisory Group.

RPI was created in 1998 to support the printing industry in the Quad State region. The ongoing goal of RPI is supporting the printing industry in several ways, including providing customized training for the regional employers. This activity can occur onsite at the company facility or at James Rumsey Technical Institute in Hedgesville, West Virginia. RPI conducts training programs on such topics as: printing technology, press technology, pre-press and printing administration.

The Regional Printing Industry is currently working on three additional activities to complement their goals. RPI has created “Intro to Print” which is a program for high school seniors to learn about the graphic communications industry with classroom training and plant tours throughout a school semester; scheduled to begin in January 2003. RPI is planning an “Industry Awards Banquet” to highlight local printers (large & small) and the accomplishments of their employees; this banquet is scheduled for April 2003. Another activity RPI has organized is the “Print Academy” which is a training program for national customer service certification, with the ultimate goal of acquiring the designation Certified Printing Service Specialist (CPSS); this training begins in February 2003 and conclude in May 2003.

As an educational partner, the Regional Printing Institute is seeking sponsors for their 2003 activities, including sponsors for the International Printing Week Banquet, Intro to Print, and the Print Academy. If you are interested in being a sponsor of any of these activities, please contact RPI.
